Okay, I really want to do my essay on how texting has changed communication. I have no clue what kind of counter argument to use. Any suggestions?

Deletethe opposite of that would be how it Hasn't changed communication. i would start by looking for articles along that line, if any. I think of the people who dont text or haven't fallen into the norm of it. or the different types of communication that are still prevalent, or preferable.
thats a tough one because it really has changed communication in more than one one too, but i think you can pull it off. the lack of arguments makes your argument stronger. good luck
yeah i agree with you Robert because i believe that the people who haven't yet converted to the texting lifestyle might disagree or be the counter argument because they don't see the effects of texting and how it has changed communication because they are not a part of it. But other than that I would imagine that your naysayer/counter argument might not be very long because there isn't much information that disagrees with your topic.
DeleteI agree that it will be difficult to counter argue the fact that it has or has not changed communication. If I were you I would get a little more specific if possible, and narrow down the gap a bit. Whether it be by age group or social status.

ReplyDeleteI'd just like to say i appreciate the fact that these have been provided to us. I fumbled through a couple topics until i saw this. Now I'm on track.
I changed my mind about a million times on what topic I wanted to do and I ended up with one on this list without even knowing it. Good to know that I picked something that should work for this assignment. Happy writing everyone!

DeleteI really had no idea what I was going to do! How in the world do I pick a topic when I have so many options? I was so happy when this list was mentioned in class! I too ended up picking one that was on the list! Hopefully I reach all the requirements I need!
I just noticed the topic on body image issues for women. It seems like this is generally thought of as a woman/girl thing. But I'm wondering, do you men have "body image issues"?
ReplyDeleteKim Collings
DeleteI am sure that men have body image issues just like women. You could maybe talk about the rising number of teenage boys who have anorexia or any eating disorders for that matter.
I think many boys and men have body issues. Guys are always insecure of whether or not they are "big" enough referring to their muscles. There are also chubby guys who want to lose weight but you just dont hear as much about it because girls appear to be more insecure than guys are. Maybe they don't worry about super skinny like girls want to be, but i think they are more worried about how they look than people consider.
DeleteI think everyone cares in some sort of way as to how they look, I would not call it an issue though. There are a fair share of guys that are obsessed, but I do not think working out makes you have "body issues". It is not a matter of me being insecure when I work out, but I do it because it makes me feel better. There are some though that do it because they are insecure, but it does seem like women are more concerned about such things. Maybe I am mistaken though
DeleteAlong the same lines as my comment, do you think women have more body issues than men? If so, do you think it has anything to do with the fact of women giving birth? Sounds silly, but I know a lot of moms who compare themselves to girls who are not mothers and in their early 20's. Why is that?
DeleteI think women do have more body image issues because they are set to higher standards and have a much stronger social pressure to deal with.

What essay topic did you guy choose for your last writing assignment? I did Chinese immersion program in elementary schools. Goodluck with your last ppaper! tell me what you think...
ReplyDeleteI chose Obesity in the Unites States and how its a serious problem, yet for some reason people dont worry so much about it like they do with tobacco and smoking. I'm having a little bit of a problem with the counter argument though bc there isnt a ton of information from the opposing viewpoint. Anyways goodluck with your paper!
DeleteI'm having a hard time finding a solid counter argument. Where have you guys looked? What websites or databases?
DeleteI am doing my paper on why college athletes should be paid for their play. I looked on google and typed in my topic, then typed in counter-arguement and I found some good websites.

ReplyDeleteWould you guys rather be given free rein on a topic or be assigned one to write about? I would rather have a topic assigned. I struggle way too much trying to come up with a topic.
I would much rather be given free rein to chose my topic because you get the opportunity to pick something that your interested in. However, i did have a little trouble picking my topic at first but yeah that is just my personal opinion.
DeleteI agree with Emily on this one, and not just because she has a cool last name(even though it is super legit) getting to choose a topic makes it so you can actually branch out a bit more and put in a personality. The paper seems to come a alive more
DeleteDefinately have free rein. I feel like it's always easier to write and have knowledge about something that your interested in and care about.
DeleteThe selection of these topics is very broad and gives a variety of what you want to do. I chose the Physician- Assisted suicide because it has recieved tons of criticism. Its interesting to read the opposing arguements regarding its ethics
